American culinary expert Erin French's life story, is nothing short of a movie filled with heartbreaking moments, battling addiction and a nasty divorce. But as we say, time heals everything; the famous chef recovered from it all and is now enjoying her picture-perfect life.
Let's look into her personal and professional endeavors that made her what she is today.
Her cooking approach is simple, seasonal, and raw, yet filled with delightful recipes
Erin French was born with the talent as she has no formal gourmet expertise. Her cooking style is basic, seasonal, and raw, with recipes based on whatever produce is available from the farm on any given day. She remembered how self-conscious she was when she first opened the Lost Kitchen.
"I thought, 'are they going to find me out?' They're expecting this meal of their life, and I'm a very simple cook. I can't even make a great omelet," French said in a 2021 interview with News Northeastern.
Some of her finest summer recipes include fried squash blossoms with ricotta and herbs, buttered and roasted hake with cherry tomatoes and capers, meatloaf, and chamomile creme brulee in the rebuilt mill that houses her gem of a restaurant in the tiny village of Freedom, Maine.
You need to send a postcard to book a table at the Lost Kitchen
A meal at her critically acclaimed restaurant, the Lost Kitchen, is a special treat and an easy perfection. French has cultivated a cult following with her honest, intimate, and personal style. The diner is one of the most challenging to book in the nation, and to receive directions on where to send the postcard; clients must make a charitable contribution this year.
French has purposefully kept the eatery small despite her accomplishment to stay authentic to her original concept. "We could have opened a dozen other restaurants, but I knew that would lose the magic of this place," she said.

Her Restaurant Has an All-Female Crew of Staff Members
She and her tight group of all-female staff, including her mother, make sure to serve the best plate. Moreover, most of her employees had served in the original Lost Kitchen.
French believes that her mind tends to overthink things and steer her in the wrong direction. So, she prides herself in trusting her instincts and urges others to do the same. "When I listened to my gut, I started doing impossible things, like open a restaurant run by all women in the middle of nowhere. If I had listened to my brain, I wouldn't have done it," she said.
Furthermore, she also created a series of private dining cabins that will allow the restaurant to operate year-round rather than only from May to October.
She Opened an Online Gift Shop
Recently, after a thorough shakeup because of the pandemic, French sponsored drive-through farmers' markets with her current husband, media executive Michael Dutton, to help growers who relied on restaurant revenue recoup part of their expenditures.
She also developed an online gift shop with various Maine-made things by local women.
'Finding Freedom' is her Life Story
French spoke up to People magazine in 2021 about her memoir, Finding Freedom, which documented her pregnancy and life as a single mother, bitter divorce, battle with abuse, and journey recreating her life as a single mom from the ground up.
It was an unfortunate reversal of fortune, filled with an emotional wreck, lost love, drug addiction, and bitter divorce with her ex-husband. French had married a violent, alcoholic boat builder who was almost her father's age.
She then moved to her parent's cabin in Maine and started her life all over again. Basically, it was a stormy period of her identity and self-discovery.
French Considers Her Current Husband as Her Best Friend
French has been married to her current husband, Michael Dutton, since 2018, whom she met via Match onli.
In a loving Instagram post from August 2021, French penned a shoutout to her life partner for the couple's third anniversary: "Celebrating three years of wedded bliss with my best friend. I already love you beyond all words. And the crazy thing is that my love for you just keeps growing exponentially every day. You root me on, you lift me up, and you've given this girl wings to fly and a runway to spread them."
